I agree with everything you said about having a blog (on Brickwall). My husband says I am addicted too, but he doesn't have any idea of the community that has grown up around my blog and those of others I read everyday. I don't like the word community; it is so overused (and often incorrectly). But over the 2 years I have been blogging, I have developed real friendships with other women and some men in the blogesphere, as real as those I have with my "real" friends and in some instances, more real than those (if that makes sense).

So sorry about the loss of your friend. They may have four furry feet and may not always be the brightest crayons in the box, but they have such huge hearts, forgive so much of our human failings... how can we not deeply mourn their passing.

I did mention adopting you in a recent blog...I'd probably get a much nicer daughter in law as well. Rob, I don't understand the lists. Is it another form of poetry? Random thoughts? I am probably so out of touch with today's literature. I have seen other lists on blogs as well. Mine usually are for groceries. Chapter one has me curious, keep writing.

rosemary said...

Thank you for the great explaination of lists. You have said some disturbing things on them but I think that they are thoughts that many think but would not say or put to keyboard. There are two people that come to mind that I have wished were on the "other side." and a bit warm while there. I am thoroughly enjoying your new layout, story and yes, the lists. I am not spending too much time on the sports blog, but we have discussed that in the past...chirp, chirp.

kenju said...

I agree about the sports. The only one that interests me is basketball, but I don't read about it so much as watch it.

rosemary said...

Blogging is addictive...I can sit and read and read and read them. I am amazed at the talent and information out there. It takes me much longer to write one. Rob, you are intelligent, insightful, complex and you also need a sex life. Of course, you could get your wife started blogging. How is the new/old job? Sex is a sport isn't it?

I only allow myself to read a bit of your work at a time....I like to savor it over several days...The Red Letter was excellent; two experiences separated by time but joined in a place....I hope My Father was fiction...sadly honest. Cod Liver Oil capsule....blagghh.

apologies to anyone who has tried to make a comment in the last few days. I only noticed today that, having been redirected to this comment collection blog, I had managed to disable comments. Sorry. And thank you for persevering and coming back

rosemary..in.. said...

Well, I see myself here probably far too many times...so the comments were working for me, but ahem, there needs to be a few more stories and poems and maybe a list or two. You have a day job? A family? Need to stop the insanity? Not gonna happen Rob....I tried to do magic with my red slippers yesterday..didn't work. This blog stuff is like smoking, alcohol, shopping, cleaning..addictive. I have made some really good friends, had a lot of fun, laughed heartily, cried a bit...and YOU started it with the very first comment from a stranger. So, it is all your fault and I have no solution. But thank you. Your blog friend (fiend?)rosemary

Sometimes when I read, for example your poems or stories, I am amazed at how many "English" words I don't recognize. I don't think the feel or the moment of the writing is lost one me, but does that ever happen to you when you read American postings? I am going to start writing the words down and will compile a "list" for you! For you to read in your "spare time." I

celerman said...

Ooh, a list...yes please. Seriously though, we have to learn lots of Americanisms, place names and cultural references. It's all part of the process of reading, the bit I love. A book tells much more than just a story. It is a record of a time and a place, more so than what some people might call history. I did a module at Uni on Irich fiction. The process was just the same and I learnt an awful lot of new words along the way.

kenju said...

Ahem......Somewhat red-faced after viewing you present to your wife. I hope you adjust well and easily to your new job.

kenju said...

Celerman, red-faced does not mean offended. It was just my way of commenting on something I didn't expect to see. No worries!

I can't figure out why you like that. You have appeared to be intelligent in your past posts. Anyone can write smut. If you want to be aroused - fine - but don't point me to it unless you tell me in advance what it is.

I like the link page, agree that knowledge is worng beacuse as anyone knows knowledge IS Female! Didn't find any smut after 20 minutes so either I am too old to realize it is smut, or I didn't look long or hard enough! I have 4 words but I cheated so as not to look so stupid and looked up 2 of them...advert (to turn) benighted (darkness) but can't figure out hotchpot nose or tussocks..??? tussle? I tried to not figure them out in the context of the poems so I could maybe sound really smart and use them on my own! Ha. I love Martyn's and Lorenzo's sites...artistically lovely, the clouds take my breath away literally. Don't drink too much at midnoc and kiss Deb as if there were no tomorrow.

My husband read your blog for the first time....he rarely reads mine so consider yourself royalty...We both have a question...you can email your answer if it is too long to comment on; my email address is linked in my profile. What is..to you and in general..post modern? You use the phrase and again trying not to be too stupid, I don't know when that was or what is represented by that time. Steve really liked your lists....he is a list kind of man.

CoralPoetry said...

Hey, Celerman,

I couldn’t find any way to reply to your poem about stones (stones and fire), so I replied under your comment at my blog.

Now I am even more confused. Why can’t responders reply to each post? Why are all the comments bunched together in one big basket of mega comments? That's a bad move, surely?

Anyway, thank you for calling at my blog. You are very kind.

This is what I wrote at my blog:

Thank you for introducing me to your poetry. I like most of yours. Some of it is quite rough and ready but re-readable. I particularly enjoyed the personification of the stones. It reminded me of the nursery rhyme:

"Six stones in the bed and the little one said: “move over”, “move over”. So they all moved over and one fell out."

Of course, ‘stones' and 'bed' could easily be replaced by 'teeth' and 'mouth'.

Regards,
Coral

CoralPoetry said...

Celerman,

Thank you for your reply at my blog. Yes, I suppose keeping track of 14 blogs must be time quite consuming. If you activate comment moderation, all the comments get combined into an email address. You could allocate an email address especially for this purpose. The drawback is that delayed comments deter would-be respondents.

Sometime in the future I may follow your example and split my blog into poetry, pictures and music. As I’ve had to slow down my posts for the time being there’s no need.

Sincerely,
Coral

Your participation in this study is voluntary and you may withdraw from the survey at any point. However, your participation is very important to the study and we hope you will complete the survey. We also hope you can help us publicise this in your blog and get your friends to participate as well.

As a token of appreciation for your time, we will be giving away US$50 each to 3 lucky respondents. However, only completed surveys are entitled to enter the lucky draw. Winners will be notified via email and the money will be delivered through PayPal.

Thank you for replying to my blog. I shall be taking a break from blogging for a while, as I am sick and getting sicker by the day. I don't have cancer or a fatal disease, but doctors have told me that they cannot do much more for the most common bacteria(MRSA) that is ravaging various organs. At the moment, the bug has reached a plateau and could go either way.

Although I have not been posting I have kept a humorous presence on the Internet.

I agree with you about Microsoft. I shall be swapping over to a Mac and another operating system sometime in the future.

Hi, AnonRob, ZeusBoy,

These comments are useless fragments because they are posted out of context and cross-reference back to nothing at all. You do not even have a readily accessible archive. You have deleted everything interactive on your blog, which is fine, if that's what you want. But if you run a blog, I would have thought that you'd need extraneous input, which you are not getting.

Regards,
C

celerman said...

In the real world I have 14 blogs, which means a lot of seperate comments - it would take a lot of time to just read them all.

Conceptually, I have one blog, celermansworld to which all other pages are attached. Therefore I have one comment page. All comments are about all blogs. For me a list of 57 comments is a lot more interesting and a lot more useful than 3 or 4 comments per blog. One comment point is one more strategy aimed at creating the illusion that celermansworld is a unified space.

The archives are all readily accessible. All stories, poems, commentaries etc are listed by name and are linked to their unique URL.

As for the interactive stuff - I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean the google widgets that appeared briefly, I felt they were tacky and distracted from the project. Personally, I think the interactive stuff is the Spy Radio Poetry or the weekly taxonomy with which you have so far failed to interact.

OK Mr. Celertron,

Here is a rough guide to a random blog reader.

An average blog reader seldom says: Rob sent me, like the Headmaster sends a shitty kid to the Matron.

The average random blog reader spends 30 seconds (count them) on the front page of your blog shop window. If you haven’t pulled his/her attention within the space of 10 seconds you have failed to garner enough interest to gain his/her payment in the shape of a response to your article that appears ON THE FRONT PAGE. You have also lost any hope of holding their interest long enough to explore the archives that (in your blog, by choice) is accessed by multiple clicks through the ‘older post’ button, which nobody is prepared to do.

Re: You say: All comments are about all your blogs.

This is the sum total of responders to all 14 blogs? Including the backdated archives?

Almost every responder in your comments box has failed to provide a subject line, cf. to which of your many articles or posts he is referring. Most are referring to an obscure list, something else a random reader is unlikely to delve into. You can probably now understand the dilemma of a potential reader and responder.

Regards,
C

By the way - Alex Dis(Grace) sent me.

Pattinagio Sincronizzato Lavizzara sent me here.

"There's nothing negative about keeping one step ahead of the devil and the devil's creations." And that is what is happening.

Ok C,

I found your blog via next blog and read some interesting poetry. Part of my blog was about poetry and your stuff was of a sufficient quality for me to link to it. The blogging community thrives on this kind of networking. I read your stuff and I acknowledged your work by linking to it.

In the meantime, another reader complained about a link that I had made. celerman is nothing if not considerate, therefore I placed the warning. Afterall, I can not be held responsible for material over which I have no control.

So, what is celerman to do? Firstly, I have removed the link as you requested.

Secondly, I point out that you made this request via 63 comments and that each comment repeated the message 19 times. Later the same evening you sent the same message a further 28 times. Your final comment confirms my opinion that you are actively setting out to harrass and bully me. This is my blog. I choose the layout because I make those decisions. There are a billion other blogs. Go find one that you like.

If you continue to post comments that are threatening then you will only confirm your intentions to a wider audience.

Mr. Celeroid,

The final comment was not a threat, not even a veiled one. The final comment relates to a comment upon an entirely misread, misheard, misunderstood poem that went waaay over the head of the reader who went by the name of "Pattinagio Sincronizzato Lavizzara"

I posted quantity pro-rata the time you spent sitting at my blog -12 hours over the entire Saturday in total. Other days, you have sat at my blog for 5 hours at a time.

I do not spend ANY time at your blogs because they have no educational value whatsoever. I think you should return to clearing the gutters. It would be more therapeutic.

There'll also be an email to you from a certain webmaster (NOT FROM ME) in relation to your other activities.

Regards,
Coral

Mr. Celeroid,

If I had this many personnae, all whinging and whining that she is being 'bullied' and badgered and being used and abused and put upon and hard done by and cannot stick at a job for long enough to make any money and has to beg around the blogworld for charity I would shoot myself.

Ms. Celeroid,

All your other sites have a Paypal sign at the door. This one really doesn't cut the mustard, does it? So you can't very well put one here

Ms Celeroid,

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, little girl.

Rob, other than the fact that you will lose some blog links....why don't you shut down this comment section and do the moderator thing. Start over. I would think that most of these folks that enjoy your blog have already provided their link. This guy is just too weird and scary...he probably does wear mis-matched clothes and maybe puts them on backwards thus his panties are in a twist!

I am so ultra pleased and happy, happy, happy to inform you that I am delighted to have been told by a MAJOR publishing house (not one of the internet ezine mags) that one of my manuscripts has been accepted for publication. In my opinion it is very much unfinished, but the editors think otherwise. I am filled with awe and further inspiration to continue regardless of my terrible health situation. I shall remember ALL my internet friends and they will be mentioned in person. Huge accolades will be forthcoming to various quarters of the Internet, especially those who consider others on the Internet as stupid ‘freaks’ and those whose opinions amount to giving a writer a good dose of valium. One section of the manuscript will be devoted to analysis of literature on the internet and its development versus writing for a market that wants hard copy books. All my love will go to M.E. Hope at PFFA for banning you from that venue last month. But she didn’t really, did she? You are very much the scaffolding in the lattice.

Regards,
C

Rob, miss your posts....I hope this guy has not put your fire out. Should you decide to bail on celerman and start a whole new blog, please email me and let me know. I feel like I am in mourning...I miss hearing from you, reading about you...just me

I believe in democracy and therefore I have left an example of every comment posted by "C"; everyone has the right to express their opinion. I have however removed the copies of the comments that were sent because it made it very difficult to read any other comments.
